Nigel is a pioneering, self motivated, Project Cost & Planning specialist in the Oil & Gas Industry who is recognised as a leader in his field by his peers. He has a strong engineering and project management background after 33 years involved in Upstream and Downstream projects in a major oil company, globally in all continents.

He has proven experience of consistently developing innovative processes to enhance cost and planning estimating, including a deterministic contingency and accuracy tool, contractor premium assessment and incorporation of market forecasting into the estimation process. leading to enhanced business decisions.

Nigel has chaired and served on steering committees of several Joint Industry Forums including being a key sponsor of IHS CERA Capital Cost Forums. In addition, he has presented papers at several conferences including CERAWeek and OTC.

He was a key figure in the convergence of Upstream and Downstream Project Services organisations in his previous company, thus leveraging expertise. Through promotion of Project Services, the global skill pool was quadrupled and the discipline given a higher profile within the Company. Capability was improved by pioneering skill pool competence profiles and developing/presenting training material for the in-house Project Academy.

With his 30+ year background and broad experience, allied with his deep knowledge and innovative approach to cost and planning processes, Nigel understands very well the challenges faced by energy companies in producing cost and schedule estimates that are reliable and can be relied on by senior management to make sound business decisions.

Nigel has left his position in a major oil company to set up a specialist consultancy in project development and, in particular, cost and planning. His experience, from his participation in Joint Industry forums, made him recognise that this was an area that was in need of experienced advice and ideas to improve the industry capability.

Other Project Achievements

Nigel was the Project Manager for the first topsides fabricated by Shell in Korea. As a structural engineer, he led the design of the first "self upending" launched substructure in the Northern North Sea (Eider) in addition to many other structural engineering assignments.
